Savagecamp 2008 - update 1

Here's a quick blurb from Savagecamp founder and lead director Kyle Yost which pretty much sums up the camp up best:

"SavageCamp is 9 days of very heavy Ironman training in the mountains for a competitive group of triathletes training for Lake Placid. Those who survive the entire week and two weekends of this overload training in the mountains will emerge strong and race-ready."

Kyle was also generous enough to let everyone make his lake house their home for the week. The Deep Creek area really is an oasis for getting some incredible training in. For the most part, the roads are in impeccable condition and the scenery is beautiful. Since we ride almost entirely on isolated roads, the biggest thing we have to look out for are the loose dogs that love to give chase when they see a cyclist coming down the road. Fortunately, most of the big scary dogs are chained up out front of the houses. It was always brings back lots of memories from growing up in a rural area and being chased by dogs on our little dirt bikes. What fun!

I'm still working on getting more pics and will randomly post more stuff as I have time. In short, I managed to push myself farther than I ever thought I could have gone. It was an unforgettable experience!

The plan is:

6/14 - 100 mile ride
6/15 - 90 min run, swim
6/16 - 80 mile ride + short run, swim
6/17 - SavageMan course (1 loop run) = 1.2 swim, 57 bike, 6.5 run
6/18 - long swim, 90 minute run
6/19 - Monongahela Massacre (109 ride), swim
6/20 - long swim, SavageMan Intl bike (24 miles), short run
6/21 - SavageMan Diabolical Double (125 miles)15,000 ft of climbing
6/22 - 11 mile run around lake in the a.m. (head home)

Here are some pics (more to come):

Zack's visit

I'll write more when I have time, but Zack came out to visit for a week and we had a great time. It was a lot of fun to have him around. He even spent some time working down at the office and our Asian crew affectionately nicknamed him "The Giant"!

We did some sightseeing and general viewing of the area. Here's some pics of us down in Georgetown one evening.

Here's a photo of us at the Iwo Jima Memorial:
